Night Vision and how to preserve it...

well havent done the research on the topic that you have done, however remember reading (admittedly long time ago) that red\orange was the better color for the instrumentation!!

stand to be corrected though

on a further though, for an internal light look like the red being the way to go, further convincing me that red/orange might be the way to go for other instruments/displays !!

red might allow the eyes to stay concentrated/focused on the brighter light up ahead on the road as to the white/blue/green of some displays

Study finds blue lighting keeps drivers awake

. . . .

Scientists at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York have come up with another solution that’s as simple as installing some blue LEDs around the cabin. Initial testing has found that by shining blue light at certain wavelengths, a driver’s alertness can be increased and their body-clock reset.

A drawback of this method is that it’s only practical at night but researchers are investigating how the blue light affects daytime alertness of sleep-deprived and non-sleep-deprived subjects, reports New Scientist.

The researchers are already working with a number of auto parts suppliers but they claim the project is still in the early stages.[/quote]

The above is why I'm thinking of blue for the instruments - we don't concentrate on our instruments at night, we just glance now & then, so this would be better than, say, blue lights in the footwells, methinks...

Hi Goosebeak,
In night driving there are many problems can be occur. This situation driving along at night, passenger wants to see something, switches on the overhead light. By the time you can see properly again, you have nearly killed yourself and your passengers a couple of times. However this is not the question related with the color of bulb but we have to maintain the rules of deeper light, with it light will go down and easily can see the situation of driving and can not be blind. As per my opinion the color of car bulb is yellow is perfect.
